摘要: Abstract The effect of ergosterol on cell division and phospholipid metabolism was investigated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain GL7, a sterol unsaturated fatty acid auxotroph. Cells growing poorly cholesterol were stimulated to grow more rapidly by supplementing the medium with 100 ng per ml. Within 10 min after addition cells prelabeled 32 P i or [ 3 H]inositol isotope content polyphosphoinositides increases markedly followed an equally striking rapid decrease. Subsequently upon continuous labeling, incorporation into phosphatidylinositol and, lesser degree, other phospholipids increased. Finally 3h growth rate Only stimulation first process, i.e. polyphosphoinositide metabolism, is resistant inhibition cycloheximide.
