摘要: Objective: To explore the hypothesis that older adults often are affected by more than one disease, making differential diagnosis between Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and vascular dementia (VaD) difficult. Methods: Incident cases (n = 308) from a population-based longitudinal study of people 75+ years were investigated. The DSM-III-R criteria used for clinical dementia. Data on disorders (hypertension, cerebrovascular ischemic heart diseases, failure, atrial fibrillation, diabetes) as well type onset/course retrospectively to reclassify dementias. Results: Only 47% AD reclassified pure without any disorder. Among subjects with component, was most common (41%). 25% VaD VaD. Further, 26% developed disorder in following 3 years. Conclusions: Both degenerative mechanisms may contribute expression among elderly. Most have involvements, types very old constitute only minority cases.
