摘要: Abstract Carnivores use various scent-marking methods. Observations on the scent marking by urination of 16 free-ranging dogs from two neighbouring groups were recorded in town Katwa, West Bengal, India. The frequency urine was higher males than females. seasonal mean (±S.D.) number markings for individual varied with a minimum 4.0 (±1.5) summer, and maximum 31.5 (±9.1) late monsoon. Similarly, females 1.1 (±0.9) 5.9 (±2.5) Therefore, not same every season. incidence courting place as well Occasionally, ‘possessive marking’ observed among alpha males. Urine seemed to be linked scavenging behaviour. mostly near territorial boundary during trespassing dog(s) showed evidence defense. Perhaps protect pups, marked rate at nest site. dogs, especially males, strange objects/vehicles perhaps familiarise objects. Every male female performed High leg raising (HLR) squat postures, respectively. Raised display (RLD) only influenced presence other dogs. RLD also territory, indicate their dominance, aggressiveness threaten others.
