摘要: Mariprofundaceae belongs to the order Mariprofundales, within class Zetaproteobacteria. The family embraces a single genus Mariprofundus, and species Mariprofundus ferrooxydans. Cells are motile curved rods appearGram-negative by transmission electron microscopy. Itis obligatory lithotrophic; requires Fe 2+ , marine salts; is oxygen dependent. For decades, it had been known that neutrophilic Fe-oxidizing bacteria (FeOB) associated with hydrothermal venting of Fe(II)-rich fluids seamounts in world’s oceans. evidence originated from mineralogical remains microbes. Recent culture culture-independent techniques were employed study Fe-rich microbial mats at submarine volcano. first time two iron-oxidizing strains ‐ PV-1 JV-1 isolated characterized phenotypically phylogenetically, resulting description z (Zeta)-proteobacteria nov., Mariprofundales ord. fam. nov. ferrooxydans sp.
