摘要: Human-carnivore conflict continues to present a major conservation challenge around the world. Translocation of large carnivores is widely implemented but remains strongly debated, in part because lack cost transparency. We report detailed translocation costs for three carnivore species Namibia and across different scenarios. consider effect various parameters factors on success. Total 30 individuals 22 events was $80,681 (US Dollars). Median per individual $2,393, $2,669 event. cheetah $2,760 (n = 23), $2,108 leopard 6). One hyaena translocated at $1,672. Tracking technology single biggest element (56%), followed by captive holding feeding. Soft releases, prolonged captivity orphaned also increased case-specific costs. A substantial proportion (65.4%) total successfully recovered from public interest groups. Less than half translocations were confirmed successes (44.4%, 3 unknown) with strong bias. Four leopards (66.7%) only eight 20 cheetahs (40.0%) known outcome met these strict criteria. None five habituated successfully, nor hyaena. introduce concept Individual Conservation Cost (ICC) define it as one adjusted unsuccessful same species. The median ICC $6,898 $3,140 leopard. Translocations are costly, we demonstrate that they not inherently more expensive other strategies currently employed non-lethal management. conclude should be available option conserving carnivores, needs critically evaluated case-by-case basis.
