摘要: We surveyed the effectiveness of livestock guard dogs for reducing predation on domestic sheep in Colorado during 1993. The number producers using increased from about 25 1986 to >159 proportion with 7% 68% Producers dogs, compared without lost smaller proportions their lambs predators, especially coyotes ( Canis latrans Say), and ewes black bears (Ursus americanus Pallas) mountain lions Felis concolor L . ) Overall, who did not have 5.9 2.1 times greater predators than had 1993, respectively. Proportions killed by decreased years that used dogs. Mortalities regardless type operation lamb mortality open range more 1993 obtained between these Of 160 84% rated overall predator control performance as excellent or good, 13% fair, 3% poor. More (n = 105) indicated change time, 54) indicating changed. 35) also became effective over time =19) less effective. Estimates provided 125 indicate 392 saved $891,440 A total 154 161 (96%) recommend use other producers.
