摘要: The purpose of this study is to explore the contextual determinants HIV risk among people who inject drugs (PWID) in public settings Nigeria.,In-depth, individual interviews were conducted with 29 street-based PWID recruited through snowball sampling Uyo, Nigeria. Interviews tape-recorded, transcribed, coded and analysed hematically.,Homelessness withdrawal pains encouraged consumption spaces (e.g. bunks, parks). Conversely, benefits participation street drug-use scenes, including reciprocity norms that guarantee free during protection overdose, fostered a preference for injecting. Although participants recognized need sterile syringes, scarcity syringes compelled them improvise old or share increasing transmission. was exacerbated by unlawful discriminatory policing practices, which deterred possession risky behaviours such as rushing injection sharing equipment.,Contextual factors are key PWID. Implementation needle syringe programmes well reforming legal frameworks practices support harm reduction needed responses.,This one very few qualitative studies transmission West Africa. focus on unique has important policy implications.
