High Mitochondrial DNA Diversity with Little Structure Within and Among Leaf Monkey Populations ( Trachypithecus cristatus and Trachypithecus auratus )

摘要: We used analyses of mitochondrial DNA restriction site polymorphisms to estimate population genetic structure and phylogenetic relationships among 42 individuals from two Asian leaf monkey species (Trachypithecus auratus T. cristatus) compare them the geographically proximate species, Presbytis comata. amplified a 2300-base pair fragment spanning NADH 3 4 genes, including their tRNA flanking subunits, glycine leucine, digested it with battery 22 endonucleases, yielding 21 unique multienzyme haplotypes 60 variable sites. comata is clearly divergent both Trachypithecus species. Within Javan auratus, our analysis does not support distinction subspecies currently recognized on basis morphological features (Weitzel Groves, 1985). cristatus are internally monophyletic respect each other in analysis. These results indicate either recent speciation event retention ancestral or that taxa separate Therefore conserving diversity within monkey, we would have consider as essentially one large polymorphic, conservation unit. However, unit, Java represent management unit auratus/T. Sumatra Peninsular Malaysia.
