摘要: Antigen-presenting cells (APCs) internalize antigens and present antigen-derived peptides to T cells. Although APCs have been thought exhibit a well-developed capacity for lysosomal proteolysis, here we found that they can two distinct strategies upon antigen encounter. Whereas macrophages contained high levels of proteases rapidly degraded internalized proteins, dendritic (DCs) B lymphocytes were protease-poor, resulting in limited degradation. Consistent with these findings, DCs vivo slowly thus retained lymphoid organs extended periods. Limited proteolysis also favored presentation. These results help explain why are able efficiently accumulate, process, disseminate microbes systemically purposes tolerance immunity.
