摘要: Background Acral lentiginous melanoma (ALM) is the fourth distinct variant of cutaneous melanoma. The histological diagnosis and prognosis ALM are still controversial. Objectives To review features a large series patients with ALM, confirm validity criteria for this type Methods A collection 2642 was recorded during period 1986–97, among these 187 were located on acral sites. Histological specimens reviewed in 112 melanomas; following study based subgroup. Results Histological examination revealed melanomas predominantly palmoplantar subungual locations (60%), while superficial spreading (SSM) found mainly dorsal aspects hands feet (30%). Nodular (NM) (9%) occurred all re-examination confirmed characteristics as described by Reed 1976. With increasing tumour thickness nesting cells upward migration to cornified layer similarly observed. 5-year survival rate primary without recognizable metastasis 82%. differed significantly from SSM (P = 0·001) lentigo maligna (P < 0·001), but rates similar NM (P = 0·9). Conclusions ALM, diagnosed current criteria, occur palms, soles sites, have poor prognosis.
