摘要: © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.The local buckling behaviour and ultimate cross-sectional strength of tubular elliptical profiles in compression is examined this study through numerical modelling. The models were first validated against previous experimental data with good agreement observed, enabling an extensive parametric to be performed. A total 270 sections simulated order examine the influence cross-section aspect ratio, geometric imperfections slendernesses. obtained capacities, load-deformation responses failure modes are discussed. It was found that for lower ratios hollow (EHS) similar cylindrical shells across a number metrics; however, as ratio increased, more plate-like stable postbuckling observed. Imperfection sensitivity decrease increasing slenderness ratio. shape initial imperfection on strengths EHS columns also assessed generally limited. Finally, design method has been proposed Class 4 members reflects reduction capacity due slenderness, but recognises improved stability ratio; proposals shown provide safe accurate predictions nondimensional slendernesses up 2.5 from 1.1 5.0.
