Oxygen consumption (ml kg−0.75/min) in relation to ambient air temperature at or below the lower critical (Tlc) of winter-furred raccoon dog (+ 10°C) and blue fox (−6°C) is described by equations y = 14.8– 0.28 x 7.5 – 0.20 x, respectively 2. Muscular shivering activity (integrated EMG) both species increased thermoneutrality parallel with increasing oxygen uptake heart rate. 3. Seasonal changes measured metabolic parameters were evident for species. 4. The results suggest that overall body insulation response cold are not essentially worse as compared fox. 5. It concluded earlier speculations surprisingly wide thermoneutral zone very low Tlc Arctic
