The effects of hypothyroidism on 5-HT1A and 5-HT2A receptors and the serotonin transporter protein in the rat brain.

摘要: The effects of hypothyroidism on 5-HT1A and 5-HT2A receptors the serotonin transporter protein were studied in thyroidectomized male Wistar rats two experimental groups: 1) animals kept an iodine-free diet (hypothyroid rats) 2) thyroxine (15 μg/kg) for 21 days (giving normal thyroid hormone levels, euthyroid animals). Sham-operated served as controls. Binding [3H]8-OH-DPAT with [3H]citalopram hippocampus midbrain showed no changes hypothyroid compared Conversely, there significant decreases [3H]ketanserin binding to frontal cortex controls; this decrease was reversed by treatment. Thus, losses cortical appears be main consequence at level system brain.
