摘要: The two left ventricular (LV) papillary muscles are small structures but vital to mitral valve competence. Partial or complete rupture, complicating acute myocardial infarction, causes severe even catastrophic regurgitation, potentially correctable by surgery. Papillary muscle dysfunction is a controversial topic in that the role of itself, causing regurgitation post has been seriously questioned; it less confusing if this syndrome attributed not only also adjacent LV wall ischemia infarction. calcification easily and frequently detected on echocardiography, its clinical significance remains uncertain. hypertrophy accompanies varied etiology may have significant producing dynamic late-systolic intra-LV obstruction hypertrophic cardiomyopathy other hyperdynamic hypertrophied chambers. All above abnormalities can be adequately assessed 2-D echocardiography Doppler modalities. In selected cases, transesophageal provide additional valuable data improving visualization apparatus.
