摘要: An ensemble of new, high-resolution records surface ocean hydrography from the Indian-Atlantic oceanic gateway, south Africa, demonstrates recurrent and high-amplitude salinity oscillations in Agulhas Leakage area during penultimate glacial-interglacial cycle. A series millennial-scale salinification events, indicating strengthened salt leakage into South Atlantic, appear to correlate with abrupt changes North Atlantic climate Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC). This interhemispheric coupling, which plausibly involved Hadley Cell midlatitude westerlies that impacted interocean transport at tip suggests acted as a source negative buoyancy for perturbed AMOC, possibly aiding its return full strength. Our finding points Indian-to-Atlantic potentially important modulator AMOC Late Pleistocene.
