摘要: Abstract Aims To investigate the degree to which comorbid depression contributes relationship of diabetes with functional disability in African Americans (AAs), a population at high-risk for complications. Methods We examined 2989 (AAs) Jackson Heart Study who had and depressive symptoms (CES-D) assessed baseline. Overall was defined as inability perform least one task daily living. Multivariable logistic regression models explored association disability. Results Prevalence overall highest both (54%), similar alone (31%) or (33%), lowest neither (15%). Adjusting demographics, smoking, BMI, cardiovascular comorbidities, hsCRP, (OR = 2.30,95% CI 1.75–3.03) (OR = 2.75,1.88–4.04) significant, but not (OR = 1.26,0.95–1.67), compared neither. In analyses including any together models, main effect associated disability, interaction term significant (p-value=0.84). Conclusions Functional among AAs have symptoms; latter stronger contributor. Future studies should explore mechanisms underlying diabetes, particularly role depression.
