Physical Health Functioning Among United Methodist Clergy

摘要: United Methodist clergy have been found to higher than average self-reported rates of obesity, diabetes, asthma, arthritis, and high blood pressure. However, health diagnoses differ from physical functioning, which indicates how much problems interfere with activities daily living. Ninety-five percent (n = 1726) all actively serving in North Carolina completed the SF-12, a measure functioning that has US norms based on self-administered survey data. Sixty-two 1074) our sample SF-12 by formats. We used mean difference tests among surveys compare Physical Composite Scores US-normed scores. Clergy reported significantly better composite scores their gender- age-matched peers, despite above disease burden same sample. Although interventions tailored address chronic are urgently needed, it may be difficult elicit participation given pastors’ optimistic view functioning.
