摘要: Summary Purpose:  We have previously found that the developmental time frame of epilepsy onset influences adult personality traits and subsequent adjustment to intractable seizures. In same cohort patients we now investigate influence these factors on psychosocial outcome after surgical treatment. Methods:  Fifty-seven with focal were prospectively assessed before surgery. Measures included mood, health-related quality life (HRQOL), adjustment, collected longitudinally at 1-, 3-, 12-months surgery. Results:  Patients high neuroticism low extraversion predisposed greater depression More than 70% also reported disrupted family dynamics difficulties adjusting seizure freedom. The latter was associated changes in self-identity increased over time. or during self-defining period adolescence greatest perceived self-change surgery had positive effects for HRQOL. Discussion:  Psychosocial appears intrinsically linked a change self transition from chronically sick well. development context habitual seizures can impact extent surgery, paradoxically, concur more beneficial effects.
