摘要: Ascertaining the phosphorus (P) release processes in polymictic lakes is one of methodologically most complex questions limnology. In current study, we combined short- and long-term investigations to elucidate role sediments P budget a chain eutrophic lake basins. We quantified internal loading three basins Lake Peipsi (Estonia/Russia) for two periods characterized by different external loadings using radiometrically dated sediment cores (long-term studies). The relationships between water quality variables loading, were studied. Our short-term studies aimed at elucidating possible mechanisms behind variations included examination surficial sediments, i.e., seasonal measurements redox potential, pore concentrations diffusive fluxes. results provided evidence potentially high importance regulating quality. core analyses revealed an increase during period lower coinciding with general deterioration (i.e, higher soluble reactive phosphorus, total biomass cyanobacteria). Increase wave action studied appeared cause more frequent resuspension, thus be likely reason loading. indicated that resuspension events can followed considerable
