摘要: Abstract Observed magnetospheric asymmetries which occur in response to the y-component of IMF are discussed terms open model magnetosphere. The torque exerts on magnetosphere about Earth-Sun axis results asymmetric addition flux tubes tail lobes noon-midnight meridian. In an IMF-associated By field appears across lobes. ratio between internal and external fields will generally be same as electric fields. If asymmetry is related distribution normal magnetopause then lobe plasma populations immediately result, observed. associated with a twist appear but not necessary asymmetries. Generally both effects may together. Simple models derived demonstrate effects. These represent more physically satisfactory its than available hitherto, they remain somewhat unrealistic number respects. Finally, it shown that observed closed (auroral zone) lines at least qualitatively accounted for if cross-magnetosphere pervades only also line regime, expected.
