Objective To measure the subjective of a population-based sample injury (TBI). Design Retrospective, cohort study involving 1-year postinjury interview. Setting Sixty-two acute care, nonfederal hospitals in South Carolina. Participants Persons (≥15y) hospitalized TBI. Interventions Not applicable. Main Outcome Measure The scales Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey. Results Of 7612 participants, 29% reported poor health. Factors associated well-being included younger age, female sex, Medicaid coverage, no insurance, inadequate or moderate social support, comorbidities (eg, preinjury substance abuse problem), cognitive complaints, and some lot limitation activities daily living. Only 36% participants who receiving any mental services. Conclusions A substantial proportion persons TBI at 1 year postinjury. optimize recovery, clinicians need to ensure that patients' needs are addressed during postacute period.
