Understanding the Veiling of Muslim Women in the Netherlands

摘要: In this study we analyze veiling as an Islamic religious practice among Turkish and Moroccan immigrant women in the Netherlands, investigating whether strength of identity, education, contact with natives, gender role attitudes can explain who veils does not. Confirming stereotypical interpretations veil a symbol strongly gendered religion, find that strong Muslim identity traditional are positively associated veiling. While our results seem to support predictions natives education relate negatively wearing headscarf, these relationships more complex. Education strengthens positive relation between identification veiling, indicating most highly educated endorse if they religious.
