Feasibility and effectiveness of nurse-delivered smoking cessation counselling combined with nicotine replacement in Australian general practice.

摘要: Introduction and Aims.Practice nurses (PN) are an alternative workforce for cessation support in primary care, but their role effectiveness is underdeveloped underresearched. This study evaluated a model of smoking intervention Australian general practice based on PNs. Smokers were identified by practitioner (GP) referred to the PN over four counselling visits offered free nicotine patches. Design Methods.Pre- post-study using mixed quantitative qualitative methods. Cessation outcomes collected patient self-report at 6 months. Semistructured interviews conducted with PNs GPs provide data acceptability model. Results.The project involved 31 PNs, 35 498 patients from 19 practices Sydney. Mean age participating was 46 years 61% female. number 3.1. At 6 month follow up point prevalence abstinence rate 22% continuous 16%. Participants who had attended or more significantly likely quit. expressed enthusiasm belief its value feasibility. Discussion Conclusions.Substantial rates found this uncontrolled well accepted GPs.
