Numerical simulations of self-pinched transport of intense ion beams in low-pressure gases

摘要: The self-pinched transport of intense ion beams in low-pressure background gases is studied using numerical simulations and theoreticalanalysis. are carried out a parameter regime that similar to proton beam experiments being fielded on the Gamble II pulsed power generator [J. D. Shipman, Jr., IEEE Trans. Nucl. Sci. NS-18, 243 (1971)] at Naval Research Laboratory. Simulation variations provide information scaling with gas species, pressure, current, energy, injection angles, boundaries. simulation results compare well simple analytic arguments for pressure which effective net current should peak estimates required confinement current. analysis indicates produced (1.5 MeV, 100 kA, 3 cm radius) expected occur pressures between 30 80 mTorr He or 10 Ar. significance these ion-driven inertial fusion discussed.
