Removal of Methylene Blue from Aqueous Solutions Using Poly(vinyl alcohol)/Montmorillonite Nanocomposite Hydrogels: Taguchi Optimization

摘要: Nanocomposite hydrogel adsorbents on the basis of poly(vinyl alcohol) containing 0, 4, 8 and 12 wt% (based dry basis) montmorillonite were prepared using a cyclic freezing–thawing process. The capabilities in adsorbing cationic dye, methylene blue, studied aqueous solutions having different temperatures, pH concentrations. Taguchi method was utilized to optimize controllable factors, including loading level, solution temperature also blue concentration adsorption solution. nanocomposite characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy their gel content swelling values measured. results showed that had direct inverse dependency level incorporated adsorbent, respectively. successful dye confirmed spectroscopy. Based method, optimized conditions for found as: 12 wt%, 50 °C, 9 5 mg/L. percentage contribution each parameter removal determined Analysis Variance following order found: temperature > concentration solution > montmorillonite adsorbent > pH.
