摘要: The South African steel manufacturing industry is under immense financial pressure. This due to continuously rising energy and operating costs. Meanwhile, local producers are faced with demands remain competitive in a market flooded by cheaper imported steel. investigation practical implementation of improved efficiencies, load shifting peak clip projects thus required alleviate costs for manufacturers. paper details developed evaluation process identify investigate cost saving opportunities on sinter plant at integrated steelworks. Required raw materials preparation, the sintering an intense consumer electricity. A comprehensive literature review identified several existing applicable processes. initiatives model was rate feasibility industry. model, enhanced simulation, revealed that alignment production scheduling Eskom’s time-of-use (TOU) periods most feasible opportunity. Pilot studies showed electrical consumption shift 9-14 MW achievable. 9 equates annual R10 million. pilot confirmed optimisation schedules will reduce electricity plants.
