Size structure and life cycle patterns of dominant pelagic amphipods collected as swimmers in sediment traps in the eastern Fram Strait

摘要: Abstract Time series length-frequency data are presented for Themisto amphipods collected as swimmers by moored sediment traps since 2000 at the AWI deep-sea observatory HAUSGARTEN (79°N/4°E) in eastern Fram Strait. Amphipod occurrences increased significantly from to 2009 200–300 m depth, and North Atlantic species compressa was continuously present samples starting 2004. We year-round records of large adult amphipods, including appearance libellula with a total body length up 56.7 mm juveniles 4.0 mm. The abyssorum ranged 4.2 25.6 mm, whereas it varied 8.8 24.4 mm. Length-frequency analysis indicated life span 2 years T. least 3 years . absence suggested its reproduction southern subarctic areas occasional northward migration warmer water into seasonal long-term size structures three pelagic were consistent over course study, indicating no changes occurred cohort development due increasing abundances or warming temperatures.
