摘要: This chapter discusses diamagnetism of diamond and graphite. The magnetic moment has a linear field dependence at all fields, is temperature independent. electronic spectrum other diamond-structured semiconductors exhibits gap the Fermi level. separates valence conduction band. Van Vleck term, obtained through second-order perturbation theory, can be considered as resulting from virtual dipole transitions between band oscillator energy average separation states connected by operator. It found that results for are comparable with those Si Ge. remarkable because diamond's significantly larger than Si. calculation electron based on graphite's 3D structure presented. properties rhombohedral graphite also elaborated in chapter.
