摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses molecular biology of chemical neurotransmission. Classical neurotransmitters are small organic molecules synthesized through a series enzymatic reactions. The genes for several the rate-limiting synthesizing enzymes have been cloned and at least part corresponding amino acid sequences determined. is case tyrosine hydroxylase, tryptophan choline acetyltransferase, glutamic decarboxylase. Rat hydroxylase consists 498 acids, whereas its human counterpart 497 acids in length 90% homologous to rat protein. action classical rapidly terminated selective reuptake mechanisms inactivation. Acetylcholinesterase, which responsible inactivation acetylcholine, constitutes prototype such an enzyme. In synaptic cleft, it found as collagen-like structural subunit linked catalytic subunits by disulphide bonds. acetylcholinesterase from Torpedo californica electroplaques has sequenced; 575 protein that shows surprising homology with carboxy-terminal half bovine thyroglobulin, significance unknown.
