摘要: Structural deformity of the spine can present during embryonic development as well a range postnatal growth and maturation in humans. The most common disorders observed human are classified idiopathic scoliosis (IS), with majority these presenting adolescence. By definition there is limited understanding underlying causes disorders. Several animal models have been reported to display hallmarks characteristic traits IS ranging from pineal gland resection chicken surgically induced large more recent examples heritable genetic mouse zebrafish. Moreover, progress using genomic studies coupled genetically tractable zebrafish has begun advance mechanistic genetics pathogenesis this condition. In chapter, we review for IS, highlighting important findings each model addressing caveats consideration. Studies relevant tremendous potential identify mechanisms other diseases offer an ethical cost-effective platform novel therapeutics.
