摘要: THE respiratory chain complexes of mitochondria consist many different subunits, which only a few partake directly in electron transport. The functions the subunits that do not contain prosthetic groups are largely unknown1. cytochrome reductase complex Neurospora crassa , for example, consists nine subunits2, peripheral membrane proteins I and II (ref. 3) located on matrix side mitochondrial inner membrane4 largest devoid redox centres. Significantly, fraction lacking these two was inactive transfer5, yeast mutants with defective genes either assembly is disrupted6,7. Most imported into mitochondrion as precursor proteins, necessary cleaving their presequences8, namely processing peptidase (MPP) enhancing protein (PEP), latter strongly stimulating activity former9. Temperature-sensitive mutants, affected PEP or MPP, accumulate precursors at non-permissive temperature10 –12. We report here subunit N. crassa. identical to therefore bifunctional, participating both transport processing. can be grouped members same family.
