摘要: Computer simulations of parallel distributed processing (PDP) neural networks have increased our understanding brain functioning. This article reviews how PDP concepts can contribute to schizophrenic symptoms. Psychotic states induced by phencyclidine and the adult form metachromatic leukodystrophy, as well neurometabolic studies, suggest that schizophrenia reflects a breakdown in communication between cortical areas. A computer simulation this type pathology has suggested two neurocognitive consequences: some circuits will become functionally autonomous, subset these yield "parasitic foci" slavishly reproduce same cognitive output. Delusions control, paranoid delusions idee fixe type, thought broadcasting, "voices," certain deficit symptoms are postulated outcomes parasitic foci located at different levels language processing. neurodevelopmental model impaired corticocortical is described, model's implications for further study outlined.
