摘要: The Himalayan musk deer, Moschus chrysogaster inhabits the forests of Neelum Valley, Jammu and Kashmir, including Machiara National Park. A study was made to ascertain extent trade in assess hunting pressure present conservation status population deer. Musk deer are killed excise pod found mature males between genital organs umbilicus. According information gathered from nine major professional traders, 26 (65%), 31 (73.8%) 44 (97.77%) pods were collected illegally during 2000-02 respectively. However, cumulative total number at least 40, 42 45 respectively, as revealed by data obtained 209 hunters. Data show that though male for collection, females also illegal harvesting. There is limited use traditional medicine pulmonary diseases area. poaching activity fetches US $275-310 per pod; hence poses a threat survival species. Population on rapid decline because destruction natural habitat due nomadic local grazing, along with unsustainable commercial logging extraction medicinal plants government well locals. Measures conserve species outlined within framework sustainable living resources development.
