摘要: Sand movement is a predominant feature of mobile coastal and lake-shoreline sand dunes. Plants growing in these environments are able to withstand survive periods burial by sand. Although mosses important dune stabilizers temperate dunes, there few studies focused on their response In this study we examined the effects 11 moss species that grow naturally Lake Huron dunes occur gradient habitats from foredunes along shore forested areas. Artificial treatments (sand depth 0, 1, 3, 5 7 cm) were imposed under greenhouse field conditions. We measured final plant cover calculated speed emergence an interpretive index (tolerance index) compare responses among calculating ratio which standardized initial size each species. greenhouse, Ceratodon purpureus Ditrichum flexicaule recorded highest mean speeds Dicranum scoparium, Plagiothecium laetum, flagellare Brachythecium sp. 1 lowest. trends similar although was much slower. Three types evident cover: neutral, inhibition stimulation. all eleven studied emerge different depths burial, observed colonizing areas with high mobility deposition (C. D. flexicaule) most tolerant emerged up 35 times height. Species inland, at base trees (Dicranum 2, Plagiomnium cuspidatum flagellare) showed least tolerance burial.
