摘要: Background: Body weight provides limited information about nutritional status of patients with anorexia nervosa (AN). Objectives: Our objectives were to determine body composition (BC) changes, find clinical predictors and endocrine correlates total protein (TBPr) depletion, compare results on fat mass (FM) obtained anthropometry (skinfold measurements) dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) in AN. Design: weight, index (BMI; kg/m 2 ), BC (with DXA skinfold measurements), TBPr [with vivo neutron activation analysis (IVNAA)] was assessed 50 AN (15.2 y) 40 healthy sex- age-matched controls. In 47 22 controls, hormone concentrations measured. Results: patients, (44.4 6 5.5 kg), BMI (16.7 1.6), FMDXA (7.0 3.4 kg) lower than Lean tissue by (LTMDXA) similar controls (35.7 4.3 compared 35.8 4.5 but 87% that (8.1 1.0 9.2 1.2 kg; P , 0.001). Cortisol high, testosterone unchanged, estradiol insulin-like growth factor I low. Severe depletion measured IVNAA seen 17 could not be identified simpler methods. All except 1 26 a . 16.5 had normal TBPr. The difference individual percentage measurements came up 9%. Conclusion: severe 34% accurately LTMDXA or methods, indicated Future studies need reference technique assess FM patients. Am J Clin Nutr 2009;89:1‐6.
