摘要: Based on a two-year ESRC-funded project by Demos and Lancaster University, this report examines the technical social implications of nanotechnologies. Rapid advances in nanotechnologies are giving rise to new economic, ethical questions. Are systems governance regulation keeping pace? How can we imagine possibilities created emerging technologies choose among them wisely? This pamphlet presents findings project, which aimed understand scientific visions that influencing nanotechnology research, develop opportunities for ‘upstream’ dialogue between scientists wider public. Through interviews with policymakers, spending time nanoscience laboratories, tried draw out implicit assumptions – what sometimes termed ‘imaginaries’ key players field. This was followed series public focus groups, explored questions risk, responsibility control, identified potential faultlines controversy. At final workshop, group nanoscientists citizens shared their hopes, fears concerns. The tone conversation open realistic, generated surprising degree consensus, as members developed better sense life laboratory, grew appreciate legitimacy
