PG 1700+518: a low-redshift, broad absorption line QSO

摘要: The first high-resolution optical spectra and lower resolution UV of PG 1700 + 518, the only known broad-absorption-line (BAL) QSO at low emission redshift (0.288) are presented. data were obtained with Isaac Newton Telescope on island La Palma International Ultraviolet Explorer satellite. outstanding feature spectrum is a strong, broad Mg II absorption trough, detached from line indicative ejection velocities between 7000 18,000 km/s. Also detected narrow (FWHM = 350 km/s) lines absolute z 0.2698, which probably related to mass phenomenon. It concluded that emission-line similar other low-redshift QSOs although there some obvious differences typical BAL QSOs, most notably in unusually level ionization both gas. 21 references.
