HVA and 5HIAA CSF measurements and 5HTP trials in some patients with involuntary movements

摘要: Abstract In 18 patients presenting with abnormal movements, CSF indolamine metabolites, namely homovanillic acid (HVA) and 5-hydroxy-indolacetic (5HIAA) were measured. Statistical analyses performed on these results, a trial 5-hydroxytryptamine (5HTP), the serotonin precursor, was carried out. 5HTP appears to be beneficial in “the syndrome of intention action myoclonus as sequel hypoxic encephalopathy” but may worsen certain other involuntary movements.
