摘要: Objective To determine whether the hypometabolism observed in PET images of patients with Alzheimer9s disease (AD) is due entirely to brain atrophy. Background Reduced glucose metabolism AD measured using has been reported by numerous authors. Actual metabolic values may be reduced artificially because atrophy, which accentuates partial volume effect (PVE) on data collected PET. Methods Using segmented MR images, we corrected regional cerebral rates for PVEs evaluate atrophy uncorrected and healthy control subjects. Results Global was significantly before after correction compared controls. Before PVE correction, were lower than subjects inferior parietal, frontal, lateral temporal cortex; posterior cingulate; precuneus. These reductions remained although cingulate difference between lessened. Regional these areas moderately-severely demented mildly patients. Conclusion not simply an artifact increase CSF space induced but reflects a true reduction per gram tissue.
