Methotrexate for prophylaxis of choriocarcinoma

摘要: Abstract The malignancy rate in 580 cases of hydatidiform mole Singapore was 14.8 per cent. An attempt made to reduce this by giving patients with moles 3 courses prophylactin oral methotrexate totaling 150 mg. after removal the mole. In a study involving 380 patients, including control subjects, treatment achieved slight reduction from 8.7 4.5 cent, but it produced considerable toxicity and significantly increased mortality (2.2 cent compared 0.5 controls). However, tumors which developed subsequent prophylactic were sensitive same drug given larger doses. Choriocarcinomas recognized within year highly chemotherapy, 100 survival can be expected if close follow-up carefully supervised are instituted. There an 80 among 5 choriocarcinoma detected later. It is suggested that closer supervision programs, parenteral careful, decisive rotation chemotherapeutic agents, selective use radiotherapy cerebral may improve late cases.
