摘要: Abstract On the lower eastern flanks of Egmont Volcano, western North Island, New Zealand, several Egmont-sourced tephras have been correlated to a radiocarbon dated peat site that provides late last-glacial early post-glacial record vegetation and climate change in central Taranaki. The pollen spectra at this indicates mosaic grassland-shrubland Prumnopitys taxifolia-dominant forest ca. 13,100 BP suggests cooler drier than present. ominance tall podocarp by 12,900 climatic amelioration was rapid towards end last glacial period. Initially dominated taxifolia but 11,000 succeeded Dacrydium cupressinum indicating steady shift warmer moister climate. Tephra interbedded with allows precise chrono-correlation into Andisol-forming environment. rapidity identified from variations Andisol morphology mineralogy concurs indicated changes peat.
