摘要: We compare detection rates of different species mammals by three types hairtubes in both the mountain ash forests central highlands Victoria and a range wet forest at Tumut southern New South Wales. The were small-diameter PVC pipe, large-diameter pipe newly constructed tapered hair funnel. Data analysed for brown antechinus (Antechinus stuartii), bush rat (Rattus fuscipes), common wombat (Vombatus ursinus), swamp wallaby (Wallabia bicolor) brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula T. caninus). most effective hairtube type (i.e. one yielding highest number detections) varied between species: small forR. fuscipes, funnels Trichosurus spp., large V. ursinus W. bicolor. For A. stuartii, differed two study regions (hair Tumut). Detection more than given plot was uncommon. Our findings have important implications field surveys how data gathered from such studies are interpreted. example, if aim survey is to detect wide then several may need be deployed.
