摘要: The pine marten (Martes martes) is one of Ireland’s most elusive mammals. Between July 2003 and 2005, hair tubes attached to trees with adhesive patches inside, were used detect presence in Portlaw Woods, County Waterford. Screening tests potential lures assess attractiveness suitability carried out on a variety substances free-living captive marten. use chicken as short-term lure was successful attracting the tubes. Peanut butter marmalade scored highly long-term lures. There an increase number visits tubes, which may mean that ‘learn’ where were. Samples retrieved DNA species-typed verify /absence target animals sex-typed for gender distribution. A strong bias favour males discovered. Findings have implications field studies how data gathered such while also important conservation population management schemes.
