摘要: In the United States today, there are over 2.2 million incarcerated adults held in custody U.S. state or federal prisons local jails (Glaze, 2010). Prison facilities oftentimes filled to capacity some cases, so overcrowded that conditions violate constitutional rights of prison (Brown v. Plata, 2011; Sabol & West, 2009; West Sabol, 2008). Official statistics paint a contemporary portrait 1.5 adult sentenced prisoners under jurisdiction who mostly male (93%) and from diverse racial ethnic backgrounds including Black American (36%), Caucasian (31%), Latino (20%)(West males continue have highest incarceration rates across all age categories compared White (Sabol Couture, There is growing number older both prisons, approaching nearly 5% inmates 55 2007, 7% 56 2009 (Cox Lawrence, 2010; This aging prisoner population, which five times larger than 1990, presents significant public health challenge correctional system not adequately equipped address (Falter, 1999; Reimer, Moreover, high prevalence trauma among psychological distress associated with experiences raise serious concerns about well-being this population (Krause, 2004). Studies shown approximately 93% juvenile had prior exposure trauma, such as being victim and/or witness sexual abuse (Harlow, 1999).
