摘要: Lay intuitions suggest that the ability toshare, celebrate, and enjoy others’positiveemotions– a phenomenon we term positive empathy – bolsters individual well-being and relationship strength. However, it is unclear from current literature whether (i) distinct highly related constructs and(ii)whetherpositiveempathyisassociatedwithsalutarysocialandpersonaloutcomes. Here, webegin by examining basic evidence suggesting to, but independent from, such as general positivity for others’ distress. We then review correlates with increased prosocial behavior, social closeness, well-being. Lastly, discuss open directions study of empathy, investigating potential role (or its disruption) in psychiatric disorders.
