摘要: Many proteins cleave and reseal DNA molecules in precisely orchestrated ways. Modelling these reactions has often relied on the axis of double helix being circular, so cut-and-seal mechanisms can be tracked by corresponding changes knot type axis. However, when molecule is linear, or protein action does not manifest itself as a change type, types are 4-plats, knot-theoretic models less germane. We thus give taxonomy local configurations. More precisely, we characterise all rational tangles obtained from given tangle via rational-subtangle replacement. This classification then endowed biologically with distance that determines how many enzyme-mediated particular needed to proceed one conformation another, indeed if it even possible. conclude discussing variety biological applications this categorisation, including mediated II topoisomerase, site-specific recombinase transposase.
