摘要: The rapid solidification of three magnesium-based alloys has been carried out on copper substrates with four tailored surface morphologies. Increasing roughness improved the wetting characteristics substrates, as did coating carbon. Of tested, AZ31 showed inferior behaviour due to formation alumina oxides at interface between melt and substrate. This was obviated by addition calcium melt. pure magnesium castings all produced a strongly columnar region weak crystallographic texture. alloy weakly regions an essentially random cast onto carbon-coated fully equiaxed microstructure inhibition heterogeneous nucleation substrate surface. It is demonstrated that randomly textured grains can be through implications this for ductility sheet discussed.
