摘要: It is widely held that existing reserve systems are inadequate in representing the diversity of biological features regions which they reside. Evidence for this argument has, however, derived principally from analyses efficiency networks when compared with a minimum set represents each species at least once. Here, we examine system Sites Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) wetland plants fen sites Scottish Borders, region where might be expected priori to perform reasonably well regard. The results support general contention have been designated an inefficient manner. However, examined terms effectiveness (measured as gap between representation target required and one attained by network), SSSI actually rather good way diversity. This result consistent several very different targets evaluated, suggests more balanced approach evaluating performance should employed, statements based on treated cautiously.
