A major reason for land reservation has been the relative lack of value selected sites commercial uses or human habitation. Other important reasons include scenery, recreation, tourist potential, influence lobby groups, and historical protection such as hunting water supply. There are two main disadvantages ad hoc approaches to reserve planning. One is bias in content regional systems, leaving some species, communities, ecosystems without protection, often ones most need strict reservation. The second that reservations can make goal representing biodiversity more expensive, reducing likelihood protecting many elements biodiversity. Ad persist despite clearly stated representation goals, improving data bases, systematic techniques selection. causes be understood addressed if potential realized.
