摘要: SUMMARY Background Not all patients are suitable for kidney transplantation; however, little is known about the views and attitudes of who not on waiting list transplantation. Objective This study aimed to determine regarding process transplant allocation. Methods A grounded theory approach was used develop theories from patient views, opinions attitudes. Patients receiving dialysis, at a United Kingdom renal unit were identified by counsellor invited take part. Five formed focus group enable construction an interview schedule. (n = 10, different those in group) interviewed until themes became saturated. Interview transcripts generated conceptual categories. Results Seven categories emerged access transplantation. experience emotions loss relating transplantation exacerbated restrictions imposed dialysis. find coping mechanisms, accept their situation trust that clinical decisions equitable. Conclusions Patients carers support efficacy argument when considering scarce resources. Communication should be improved ensure clarity understanding decisions.
